Articles — a, an, and the — are some of the smallest but most frequently used words in English, and since Turkish has no direct equivalent, they are especially tricky for Turkish speakers. Using them correctly depends on whether a noun is specific or unspecific to both speaker and listener.

📖 Reading Passage

Yesterday, I visited a museum in the city center. It was an old building with a huge collection of paintings. At the entrance, a friendly guide gave me a small map.
The most famous painting in the museum shows a woman standing near a river. Many tourists take photos of it every day. I also saw an interesting sculpture made of white marble.
After the tour, I sat in the museum café and ordered a cup of tea. The waiter was very polite. I decided that the museum is definitely one of the best places in the city.
Dün, şehir merkezindeki bir müzeyi ziyaret ettim. Devasa bir tablo koleksiyonuna sahip eski bir binaydı. Girişte, güler yüzlü bir rehber bana küçük bir harita verdi.
Müzedeki en ünlü tablo, bir nehrin yanında duran bir kadını gösteriyor. Birçok turist her gün onun fotoğrafını çekiyor. Ayrıca beyaz mermerden yapılmış ilginç bir heykel de gördüm.
Turdan sonra, müze kafesinde oturdum ve bir fincan çay ısmarladım. Garson çok naziktendi. Müzenin kesinlikle şehirdeki en iyi yerlerden biri olduğuna karar verdim.
